The Art Well Is Full
Two months on the road and a head full of color
And just like that, the road trip is over. Wow. We were gone for a solid two months. It’s really nice to be back in Maine. I feel like this entire trip filled my art well right up. So much to unpack. So much to think about and work on. So many color combinations and subject-matter possibilities.
After Crested Butte, Colorado, we visited:
Palo Duro Canyon State Park, TX
Stafford Air & Space Museum in Oklahoma
Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas
Pisgah National Forest, North Carolina
Somewhere along that drive, I looked out and saw this beautiful hill of gold, a lone animal, and a blue sky. It was really striking. I’m working from imagination to capture it now. It’s going to take a lot of layers. I loved the simplicity of the shapes and colors, and it was such a fleeting view. I’ll work toward capturing it. Of course, now it feels more like a dream. It may end up as a dreamy memory on paper.
The trek home felt a bit more job-like. Longer driving days. We did take a couple of rest stops: Santa Fe, NM to visit the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, and then Pisgah for camping and a mountain bike ride for John.
I’m looking forward to making a plan for the upcoming artwork, but I’m also intent on keeping it loose and inspired. I don’t want to pin it down too tightly. I want to see what rises back to the surface first.
